Malaysia 12 General Election Result is Expected to Be Known as Early as 7pm

The first result in Malaysia 12 general election is expected to be known as early as 7pm while the attaining of a simple majority is expected to be announced around 10.30pm.

Election Commission (EC) secretary Datuk Kamaruzaman Mohd Noor said this was based on its preparedness for the election as well as the improved information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure it was using.

He said manpower at its nerve centre had also been beefed up for better coordination with its officers on the ground.

"The results will be announced at an even faster rate this time," he told reporters after making a visit to the EC's operations room.

A total of 7,950 polling centres with 21,822 voting streams is open nationwide from 8am to 5pm today to enable the electorate to vote.

In terms of logistics, Kamaruzaman said a total of 46 helicopters would be also used, 20 each in Sabah and Sarawak and six in the peninsula, to ensure voting went smoothly, especially in the interiors.

Some 10.9 million Malaysians go to the polls today. For more update news on Malaysia 12 Ganeral Ellection from Malaysia Newspaper Online please visit http://malaysianewspaperonline.blogspot.com/
